What is crab position?

The crab position is a common yoga pose that is also known as Ardha Pincha Mayurasana or the half forearm stand. It is an advanced yoga pose that requires strength, balance, and flexibility. The crab position is particularly effective in strengthening the core, arms, and shoulders, as well as improving overall stability and balance.

To practice the crab position, begin by sitting on your heels with your knees bent and your feet flat on the floor. Place your hands on the floor directly behind you, fingers pointing toward your feet. Lift your hips off the floor, creating a straight line from your head to your heels. Keep your chest lifted and engage your core muscles to support your body weight.

To deepen the stretch in the crab position, you can slowly lower your head back and drop it toward the floor, opening up your chest and shoulders. Hold the pose for several deep breaths, then slowly release and come back to a seated position.

It is important to warm up the body before attempting the crab position and to listen to your body to avoid strain or injury. If you are new to yoga or have any injuries or health concerns, it is recommended to consult with a qualified yoga instructor before attempting the crab position.
